NU recognizes the importance of cultivating a generation of socially conscious youth in Bangladesh as a means toward strengthening the country’s democratic institutions and processes. NU works to create awareness among Bangladeshi youth on issues surrounding human rights, governance and environment.

• Development and facilitation of training programs for youth on relevant social issues • Network-building among and between existing youth groups, including student groups, in NU project areas • Leadership-building among youth and students, including Dalit youth • Provide enabling condition for youth groups to mobilize and participate in national and international forums to make effective demands on public agencies

Impacts and Achievements

• Organization of training program series on human rights, with a total of 886 youth participants (242 female and 644 male) • Coordination and support of youth group alliance Jubo Nagorik Adhikar Jhote (Youth Citizens Rights Alliance), active in five significant areas (Dhaka, Rangpur, Tangail, Barisal and Munshigonj) • Regular NU-supported Alliance campaigns for the right to information as well as campaigns against environmental degradation, drug abuse, corruption and violence against women • Coalition building between Alliance and larger national and international organizations, including Bangladesh Environmental Movement, World Social Forum, WTO Labor Forum, and Alliance for Economic Justice, Bangladesh • Publication of Alliance newsletter, “Jubo Uddyog” (Youth Initiative)
