NU has affiliations or linkages to national, regional and international organizations. This gives NU a special identity at the national and international level. These are given below:

National Level

SHUJAN-Shushashoner Janney Nagarik

It is believed that without democracy, good governance and justice cannot be ensured. One of the guiding tools of democracy is a free and fair election in all level. In this situation, a group of civil society members started a movement called Shujan (Citizens for Good Governance). It is a civil society forum functioning through a national committee comprises of well-known civil society members of Bangladesh. It is also functioning at district levels. Activities include:
-Campaign on good governance
-Campaign on electoral reforms
-Social audit of candidates (public hearing) of public elections Chief Executive of Nagorik Uddyog is the Joint Secretary of SHUJAN and Nagorik Uddyog is one of the key members of this forum.

Bangladesh Environment Movement (BAPA)

BAPA is a united national platform of all individuals, organizations and institutions of Bangladesh that have concern and interest for the conservation of environment of the country. The main aim of BAPA is to stop further degradation of Bangladesh’s physical environment and to repair the damages that have already been done. The activities of BAPA include demonstrations at the spot of the problems, sit-in protests, hunger strikes, rallies, seminars, workshops, roundtable discussions, helping to form local environmental groups and participating in their activities, motivational training on environment, extensive policy advocacy, legal fight, suggesting law reforms and cruising implementation flaws and representing the people in various committees formed by the government. Nagorik Uddyog is a key member in BAPA. Chief Executive of Nagorik Uddyog is Joint Secretary of BAPA, NU is also working as a secretariat of BAPA’s climate change group.

Campaign on Citizen Right to Information (CCRTI)

This campaign was initiated by Nagorik Uddyog as one of the key areas of Advocacy. In order to enact law and ensure people’s right to information, Nagorik Uddyog initiated CCRTI with five other organizations. At present, Nagorik Uddyog is operating as Secretariat of CCRTI.






Access to Justice and Right to Information Network (AJIN)

Nagorik Uddyog has played a pioneering role in the establishment of the AJIN which currently has 12 member Organizations in 11 districts. It provides the opportunity to share ideas and experiences and to find common ways of promoting human rights and good governance through diverse approaches in the different regions of Bangladesh.

World Social Forum (WSF)-Bangladesh

The World Social Forum was conceived as an international forum against neo-liberal policies and capitalist-led globalization. It believes in upholding the spirit of “Another World Is Possible”. It seeks to provide a space for discussing alternatives and exchanging experiences, and for strengthening alliances between social movements, unions of working people, civil society and NGOs. WSF-Bangladesh has been formed to express solidarity with the international response to globalization and its effects after participation in the 2003 Asian Social Forum in Hyderabad, India. Nagorik Uddyog is one of the key initiators of WSF process in Bangladesh. At present, Nagorik Uddyog is operating as Secretariat of WSF-Bangladesh.

Social Action Committee:

To protest against violation of human rights, particularly women’s right is one of the major objectives of Social Action Committee. It is a network of 35 organizations and eminent personalities of Bangladesh working in the field of women empowerment. One of its key activities is advocacy for the reestablishment of National Women Policy of 1997 and canceling the new National Women Policy of 2004.

People’s Health Movement (PHM):

Right to health is one of the major concerns of PHM. It is a national level network of more than 300 NGOs and individuals working in the health sector in connection with PHM International. It is initiating advocacy at national and international level on health issues Nagorik Uddyog is a member of PHM.
